Astoria, Queens - Identifying Commercial Vacancies

Data collected from NYC Open Data and Vacant Lots/Building data collected from a walkthrough of commercial streets, organized via QGIS

Animation done via Blender and Premiere Pro

Project completed as part of the Capstone project for Designing Cities.

Pamplin School of Business - Global Business and Analytics Complex

Created in conjunction with Virginia Tech’s PRISM team, and production studio REVELLION. I worked under affiliate VLT Media for the commercial’s production. We worked hand in hand with architects to imagine the finished complex. By working with the designers early in the process, there was some cross-adaption of ideas as to what the finished product would look like. The project is projected for completion in 2022.

Virginia Tech is a community within the greater urban community of Blacksburg.

The complex will include four buildings on Virginia Tech’s main campus in Blacksburg in order to:

  • Unite students and faculty who share a passion for an analytic approach to solve problems, in collaborative work environments, for transdisciplinary research and hands-on learning.

  • Enhance the talent pipeline for the business community in the era of big data and the new technology economy.

  • Increase undergraduate enrollment by 2,000 students in computer engineering, software engineering, and related disciplines.

My role included asset design and placement, and creating concept community spaces on campus and within the building.

Land Art Generator Initiative - Masdar City

DUNE reflects the parabola shape of a dune paralleled with the shape of the nearby institute’s undulating walls. The project integrates a solar tracker system and energy storage to offset electricity for over 700 homes in Masdar City. During the day the panels darken to absorb the sunlight. At night when the temperature drops the panels will change to a warm hue that represents energy saved.

Reflecting the design of Masdar City, pedestrian streets connect DUNE to the rest of the city and to public transport, a central component of the city’s masterplan. The angle of DUNE’s slip face reflects the arc the sun makes in the sky above Masdar City each day throughout the year.

Land Art Generator Initiative - St Kilda Triangle, Melbourne

This project was submitted for Land Art Generator's 2018 submission for the St. Kilda Triangle in Melbourne, Australia. The project features piezoelectric semi-transparent panels which created an almost unobstructed view from the ground and bridge to the water and horizon. Based on the image of two hands reaching towards each other, the installation connects the land and the sea. This submission was selected for publication by LAGI.

Software used: Blender, Cinema 4D, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop

Resiliency in Long Island

Community map created for a resiliency project on Long Island. I conducted research on the community assets most important to consider during the initial stakeholder identification process and mapped them on Google before creating the final version in InDesign.

Software used: Indesign, Google Earth, After Effects

Land Art Generator Initiative - Santa Monica Pier

This project was submitted for Land Art Generator's 2016 submission for the Santa Monica Pier. It utilizes biomimicry to imitate the sea urchin's resiliency to nature and its ability to process large amounts of water. The design symbolizes the connection between the land and the sea, producing enough renewable energy to power hundreds of houses in the local community.

The Lowline Lab

The Lowline Lab is an interactive prototype for an underground park in New York City's Lower East Side. This indoor location showcases technology that will bring sunlight inside, and potentially underground. Launched in October 2015, the exhibition attracted over 100,000 visitors during its 1.5 year tenure. I served as an ambassador here and helped educate the community about the Lowline, its technology, and its integration into the local community.

The project went dormant in winter 2019 as the space was redeveloped for luxury high rise apartments.
